Description
Sometimes called Ghyll scrambling; this activity is an exciting and challenging activity that involves either walking up or down a river gorge with prolonged periods of time in the water.
You will be challenged by water falls to jump off or climb up, rapids to slide down or climb up, plunge pools to jump in or swim through. Depending on which gorge you choose an exciting day is ensured.
There will also be a dark tunnel to test your nerve if you choose your session at Cwm Dyer
There are three gorges that you can choose to do and each one has their own specific challenges
The River (Afon) Mellte is our most challenging and adventurous river and is suitable for groups that want that extra challenge.
It involves high jumps and slides in addition to sustained periods of time in the water. All obstacles can be by passed if you are not fancying some of the jumps.
The River (Afon) Sychryd is a river where by you scramble up the gorge while encountering a number of challenges and adventures.
Such as scrambling up rapids; the ‘jacuzzi’; challenging scrambles up rocks and also jumps off water falls into plunge pools. This is the second most challenging river that we can run
Cwm Dyer, Near Gilwern, Abergavenny. This is the least challenging gorge but does come with its own set of challenges for you to enjoy.
This river requires you to walk/scramble up the river and climb a number of waterfalls as well as take on the famous ‘polo’.
The adventure finishes with a dark tunnel that will test your nerve. The gorge normally finishes here but there is an option to continue up river for another 300m for the super keen.
With this gorge you will be adding further adventure to your day by undertaking the awesome Viaduct abseil. Whereby you will be abseiling off a 75ft/23m viaduct
